Hello everyone!
India is hot as ever and it has been raining on and off. In this heat and muggy weather, our makeup just doesn’t wanna stay on our face. So, here are a few of my tips and tricks to extend the longevity of your hard working paint and to look fresh through out the day!
1. PRIMER
The hoopla around priming is real. It gives your foundation something to stick to and as a result, your makeup stays on longer. It also fills in your pores and helps make your skin appear smoother. It is advisable to apply your primer and wait for a few minutes for it to settle, then continue with your foundation-concealer-compact.
2. FOUNDATION
If you have oily skin, you will benefit from using a powder foundation. If you have any other skin type and/or prefer liquids and creams, make sure they dry slightly more matte than others and claim to be long lasting. Stay away from words like “dewy”, “glowy”, “hydrating”, “moisturising” etc as foundations which have these qualities usually aren’t very long lasting. ( unless you have extremely dry skin and don’t sweat too much )
3. POWDER/COMPACT
I cannot stress the importance of powder, especially so during this time of the year. Powder helps set your cream products into place like foundation, concealer, cream blush, cream highlight, cream contour etc. It helps you stay matte for longer and is great for touch ups!
4. EYE BROW WAX/GEL
If you’re like me and you like defining your brows then you may need a little extra help to keep them looking nice and bold throughout the day. Use an eyebrow wax before you fill them in with powder. For added longevity, you can use an eyebrow gel to hold them in place for the rest of the day ( or spray some strong hold hairspray onto a spooley/eye brow brush and comb it through your brows )
5. EYE SHADOW BASE
An eye shadow base will go a long way in keep your eye shadows looking vibrant and in place throughout the day. You can use a proper eye shadow base or even cream shadows and set them with powders for extra bang. Eye shadow bases also give something to your powder shadows to stick to and help them appear more pigmented.
6. WATERPROOF MASCARA
This is kind of an obvious one because nobody wants to end up with Panda eyes if they sweat or if it rains! I use waterproof mascaras throughout the year because they hold a curl longer. You also want to make sure that your eye liner is waterproof.
7. CREAM BLUSH
Believe it or not, cream blushes stay on for a much longer amount of time than powders. Use them over foundation and before compact. If you want your blush to last longer, apply some powder blush on top and you’ll be rosy till the end of the night.
8. LIP PRODUCTS
I happen to be biased towards matte lips the whole year round so especially during this time, gloss goes out of the window for me. I also like using lip stains as they stay on the lips and don’t feather out like glosses may ( even if it rains ).
9. MAKEUP SETTING SPRAY
A makeup setting spray will instantly add hours to your makeup. Many companies make such sprays and they’re well worth the mention. This is usually the last step to my makeup before leaving the house.
I hope this was helpful!
